Patshull Circa 1750
Original conception of Palladian-Villa
Sketch prepared by Neil Avery illustrating Architect James Gibbs’s originally conception of a monumental but refined Palladian-Villa elegant in simplicity or SIMPLEX MUNDITIIS as modestly inscribed upon its tympanum, this could well have been the appearance circa 1750, benefiting from carriage access through archways from the east west and principle honourific access from the north. The simplicity of the design was diluted fifty years later by the addition of small pavilions linking the courtyard and a large gatehouse which had the effect of completely encircling the courtyard.
